Absolute Space Engineering Inc. was founded in 2014 by George Liu. He brings three decades of geomatics engineering experience, mainly in high-precision positioning and navigation using the latest technologies available.
His passion for adventure began earlier on when as an university student he travelled to Bergen, Norway where worked on the city’s first-order triangulation control project. Upon graduating from the University of Calgary, he accepted an engineer position with Nortech Surveys, where he acquired cutting-edge knowledge in satellite positioning and inertial navigation technologies and applied them to geodetic surveying and aerial Lidar and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) mapping projects. Satellite positioning at that time in the 1980’s was in its infancy and GPS was not yet declared operational. His unique set of expertise took him on several tours to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf conflict.
He then joined the University NAVSTAR Consortium (UNAVCO) in Boulder, CO, where he completed a number of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the US National Science Foundation (NSF) funded projects for the understanding of solid Earth dynamics. One key accomplishment while with UNAVCO was the completion of the design and construction of a continuously operating GPS network in the Great Basin Ranges, stretching from California to Utah. The successful completion of this project served as a precursor to the establishment of a much larger 1100 plus station network known as the Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO).
George holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, a commissioned Canada Lands Surveyor (CLS) with Natural Resources Canada, and a Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute.
